What Is Pigmentation?
Pigmentation refers to areas of your skin where an excess of melanin has been produced. Melanin is a pigment made by specialised cells known as melanocytes. Changes in the production of these cells are often the cause of common concerns such as:

- Age spots and freckles
- Nevus of Ota and Ita
- Seborrheic keratosis
- Birthmarks

How Pigmentation Removal Works
We use the SmartPICO laser system at Adonia Medical Clinic, it’s the gold standard in aesthetic treatment systems and one of the most flexible systems on the market. This laser has two wavelengths (532 and 1065nm) and many unique handpieces of varying shapes and sizes that allow for maximum flexibility and control.
The SmartPICO laser system boasts four different emission modalities, Pico, Nano, Double and Thermal, with studies showing that Picosecond pulses seem to guarantee better results than other devices in removing pigmentation. These laser pulses, which release a huge amount of energy in a fraction of a second, allow for effective, accurate removal that leaves the surrounding skin untouched.
